Narrative:

On departure from bwi, the equipment cooling smoke light illuminated, followed several mins later by the equipment overheat light and associated EICAS messages. Electrical odor and increased cockpit temperature noted. We declared an emergency, notified our company, requested emergency ground equipment and diverted to dulles (iad). The cabin prepared for evacuate/evacuation. The situation improved on final. No evacuate/evacuation was accomplished. Landing was normal. All appropriate irregular and normal procedures were completed. ATC services were excellent.

Title: LGT CREW DIVERTS AND LANDS WHEN THEY HAVE SMOKE IN COCKPIT CABIN.

Narrative: ON DEP FROM BWI, THE EQUIP COOLING SMOKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED SEVERAL MINS LATER BY THE EQUIP OVERHEAT LIGHT AND ASSOCIATED EICAS MESSAGES. THE SIT IMPROVED ON FINAL. NO EVAC WAS ACCOMPLISHED. LNDG WAS NORMAL. ALL APPROPRIATE IRREGULAR AND NORMAL PROCS WERE COMPLETED. ATC SVCS WERE EXCELLENT.
