Narrative:

On takeoff at den, had build-ups off to north at 5-10 NM. On ground radar showed only light rain/weak returns. First officer made takeoff. Experience level less than 100 hours in type. On handoff to departure, stated on initial call that build-ups ahead were increasing in strength and that we required a left turn to avoid. Controller said that traffic did not permit immediate turn. I looked down to assess traffic displayed on TCASII map. While doing this, aircraft began to encounter turbulence. Turbulence, the WX out ahead, and dealing with ATC must have distracted first officer. He let aircraft get too nose high. When he attempted to level off, he was not aggressive enough. He overshot 10000 restriction. At 10300 I pushed on yoke to stop momentary climb to 10600. Immediately returned to 1000, followed by left turn from ATC. No comment of event from ATC.

Title: ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOT.

Narrative: ON TKOF AT DEN, HAD BUILD-UPS OFF TO N AT 5-10 NM. ON GND RADAR SHOWED ONLY LIGHT RAIN/WEAK RETURNS. FO MADE TKOF. EXPERIENCE LEVEL LESS THAN 100 HRS IN TYPE. ON HDOF TO DEP, STATED ON INITIAL CALL THAT BUILD-UPS AHEAD WERE INCREASING IN STRENGTH AND THAT WE REQUIRED A L TURN TO AVOID. CTLR SAID THAT TFC DID NOT PERMIT IMMEDIATE TURN. I LOOKED DOWN TO ASSESS TFC DISPLAYED ON TCASII MAP. WHILE DOING THIS, ACFT BEGAN TO ENCOUNTER TURB. TURB, THE WX OUT AHEAD, AND DEALING WITH ATC MUST HAVE DISTRACTED FO. HE LET ACFT GET TOO NOSE HIGH. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO LEVEL OFF, HE WAS NOT AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH. HE OVERSHOT 10000 RESTRICTION. AT 10300 I PUSHED ON YOKE TO STOP MOMENTARY CLB TO 10600. IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO 1000, FOLLOWED BY L TURN FROM ATC. NO COMMENT OF EVENT FROM ATC.
