Narrative:

I departed boeing field with 1 photographer from a local newspaper. My objective was to fly to lake isabel to photograph the site of a small plane accident. I was informed by another pilot that he had contacted the local FSDO and they informed him that the airspace in that area was open. I had just returned from a flight and observed the WX to be quite adequate for the photo flight. I chose not to obtain a WX briefing from the seattle FSS because I felt adequately prepared for the departure of this photo mission. I was unaware of any previous airspace closure as I had seen the accident site on the local news. I was flying a blue and white helicopter, I brought the aircraft to an out of ground effect hover at 400 ft AGL, 1/4 mi to the east of the recovery area. The aircraft was in shallow water along the shore with 4-5 people standing on the beach. I was over the lake a total of 3-4 mins at a safe altitude. After approximately 3 mins of flying in this area, a skiff that was parked next to the snohomish county sheriff helicopter waved me away. At that time I departed the area. Upon departure, I called flight watch to find an explanation for being waved away. I had not posed a hazard in the area nor felt I hindered any ground operation. Flight watch informed me that there was a restriction.

Title: AN SMA HELI ENTERED A TEMPORARY RESTRICTED AIRSPACE ON A PHOTO MISSION WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: I DEPARTED BOEING FIELD WITH 1 PHOTOGRAPHER FROM A LCL NEWSPAPER. MY OBJECTIVE WAS TO FLY TO LAKE ISABEL TO PHOTOGRAPH THE SITE OF A SMALL PLANE ACCIDENT. I WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER PLT THAT HE HAD CONTACTED THE LCL FSDO AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE AIRSPACE IN THAT AREA WAS OPEN. I HAD JUST RETURNED FROM A FLT AND OBSERVED THE WX TO BE QUITE ADEQUATE FOR THE PHOTO FLT. I CHOSE NOT TO OBTAIN A WX BRIEFING FROM THE SEATTLE FSS BECAUSE I FELT ADEQUATELY PREPARED FOR THE DEP OF THIS PHOTO MISSION. I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY PREVIOUS AIRSPACE CLOSURE AS I HAD SEEN THE ACCIDENT SITE ON THE LCL NEWS. I WAS FLYING A BLUE AND WHITE HELI, I BROUGHT THE ACFT TO AN OUT OF GND EFFECT HOVER AT 400 FT AGL, 1/4 MI TO THE E OF THE RECOVERY AREA. THE ACFT WAS IN SHALLOW WATER ALONG THE SHORE WITH 4-5 PEOPLE STANDING ON THE BEACH. I WAS OVER THE LAKE A TOTAL OF 3-4 MINS AT A SAFE ALT. AFTER APPROX 3 MINS OF FLYING IN THIS AREA, A SKIFF THAT WAS PARKED NEXT TO THE SNOHOMISH COUNTY SHERIFF HELI WAVED ME AWAY. AT THAT TIME I DEPARTED THE AREA. UPON DEP, I CALLED FLT WATCH TO FIND AN EXPLANATION FOR BEING WAVED AWAY. I HAD NOT POSED A HAZARD IN THE AREA NOR FELT I HINDERED ANY GND OP. FLT WATCH INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RESTRICTION.
