Narrative:

I was on climb out from missed approach at tnu on a radar vector to ILS runway 13L dsm. I had selected the altitude but failed to push the preselect arm button on the flight director, so when I was occupied with getting ready for the next approach, I allowed the aircraft to fly through the assigned altitude. A faster xchk would have eliminated the error. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated this was training flight with check pilot on board. Reporter was performing emergency procedure at time of altitude deviation and was distracted. Workload was very high.
