Narrative:

Experienced lost communication after takeoff. Maintained 3000 ft assigned and runway heading. Attempted to troubleshoot problem. After 3-4 mins, discovered problem and contacted departure control. They advised traffic at 12 O'clock, 2 mi, 3000 ft. TCASII confirmed. Disconnected autoplt and descended to 2500 to avoid other aircraft, which we now had visually. TCASII did a great job! If we had been IMC, it (TCASII) would have avoided a midair or near miss. TCASII and TCASII training proved very valuable.
