Narrative:

Our flight had several forecasts of turbulence from 8000 ft to FL400. All PIREPS of light to moderate. We were filed at FL330 but elected to stay at FL250 when controller reported turbulence at upper altitudes. We heard an aircraft on the frequency report severe turbulence and loss of control at FL270. Upon hearing this report, we requested a lower altitude even though our ride was relatively smooth. I turned PF duties over to the first officer while I coordinated with the cabin crew to put away the meal carts and situation down and strap in. I made a PA to the passenger explaining the precautions we were taking. We then hit the turbulence as we were descending. It was moderate to severe for about 3 mins. The flight attendants had not been able to situation down and were thrown around the cabin. One was 5 months pregnant. Another was injured when a meal cart fell on her foot. All were not able to continue the flight. We diverted to tpa for a severe turbulence inspection. All passenger were fine. The seat belt sign was on and had been on since departure.

Title: AN ACR LGT CREW SUFFERED SOME SEVERE TURB. A FLT ATTENDANT WAS INJURED BY A MEAL CART.

Narrative: OUR FLT HAD SEVERAL FORECASTS OF TURB FROM 8000 FT TO FL400. ALL PIREPS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE. WE WERE FILED AT FL330 BUT ELECTED TO STAY AT FL250 WHEN CTLR RPTED TURB AT UPPER ALTS. WE HEARD AN ACFT ON THE FREQ RPT SEVERE TURB AND LOSS OF CTL AT FL270. UPON HEARING THIS RPT, WE REQUESTED A LOWER ALT EVEN THOUGH OUR RIDE WAS RELATIVELY SMOOTH. I TURNED PF DUTIES OVER TO THE FO WHILE I COORDINATED WITH THE CABIN CREW TO PUT AWAY THE MEAL CARTS AND SIT DOWN AND STRAP IN. I MADE A PA TO THE PAX EXPLAINING THE PRECAUTIONS WE WERE TAKING. WE THEN HIT THE TURB AS WE WERE DSNDING. IT WAS MODERATE TO SEVERE FOR ABOUT 3 MINS. THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO SIT DOWN AND WERE THROWN AROUND THE CABIN. ONE WAS 5 MONTHS PREGNANT. ANOTHER WAS INJURED WHEN A MEAL CART FELL ON HER FOOT. ALL WERE NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE THE FLT. WE DIVERTED TO TPA FOR A SEVERE TURB INSPECTION. ALL PAX WERE FINE. THE SEAT BELT SIGN WAS ON AND HAD BEEN ON SINCE DEP.
