Narrative:

Aft door came open upon takeoff. We then made an uneventful return for landing at madison. Other than a draft through the cabin, it was not a serious situation. Another airline has started working our passenger and baggage. They are not familiar with our operations, and double checks are overlooked since we are usually late. If we incorporated a full walk-around after all compartments were closed, it would have been noticed before taxi. The crew can do a hundred preflight checks, but if someone else opens a door and does not properly latch it, the crew has no control on a door we can't get to. These small but overlooked procedures seem to be a 'norm' at commuter airlines (at least ours). Supplemental information from acn 234145: contributing factors - - failure of first officer to assure complete latching of the door since there is no annunciator light to indicate an open door on the small transport.

Title: COMMUTER HAS DOOR COME UNLATCHED AFTER TKOF. RETURN LAND.

Narrative: AFT DOOR CAME OPEN UPON TKOF. WE THEN MADE AN UNEVENTFUL RETURN FOR LNDG AT MADISON. OTHER THAN A DRAFT THROUGH THE CABIN, IT WAS NOT A SERIOUS SIT. ANOTHER AIRLINE HAS STARTED WORKING OUR PAX AND BAGGAGE. THEY ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH OUR OPS, AND DOUBLE CHKS ARE OVERLOOKED SINCE WE ARE USUALLY LATE. IF WE INCORPORATED A FULL WALK-AROUND AFTER ALL COMPARTMENTS WERE CLOSED, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTICED BEFORE TAXI. THE CREW CAN DO A HUNDRED PREFLT CHKS, BUT IF SOMEONE ELSE OPENS A DOOR AND DOES NOT PROPERLY LATCH IT, THE CREW HAS NO CTL ON A DOOR WE CAN'T GET TO. THESE SMALL BUT OVERLOOKED PROCS SEEM TO BE A 'NORM' AT COMMUTER AIRLINES (AT LEAST OURS). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 234145: CONTRIBUTING FACTORS - - FAILURE OF FO TO ASSURE COMPLETE LATCHING OF THE DOOR SINCE THERE IS NO ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT TO INDICATE AN OPEN DOOR ON THE SMT.
