Narrative:

I was scheduled to do a commuter flight arriving back at anc at XB10 local. I had started my day at XA15 local so I should have been back approximately 1 hour before my duty day expired. Approximately 30 mins out of anc, unforecasted fog formed in anc and the RVR went down to 1000 ft. My minimums were 1800 RVR, so after holding about 5 mins I proceeded to ena for fuel. After about 40 mins the WX in anc went to better than 1000 ft ceiling and 10 mi visibility. We completed the flight and I accidently exceeded my duty time by 25 mins. I had gotten my understanding of duty time limits confused and was thinking that I would just need to accomplish the required rest period to be legal. It was after I was off that I realized my mistake. I did not get the FARS out to check since my 40 min ground time was very busy. I had 16 passenger to attend to (1 a deaf, unaccompanied minor -- no lip reading and minimal reading skills). I had to taxi to the fuel pit to get fuel myself and I had a new copilot with 3 days on line that I was keeping track of. There was little to be done to correct the situation as I was already off duty and the event had occurred. The only things were to reaffirm the regulation so that I did not let this happen again and to pass this information along to the new first officer to insure his understanding. (He was my second first officer of the day, so did not violate his duty time.)
