Narrative:

We were in level cruise at 16000 ft. ATC called VFR traffic at 2 O'clock and climbing. We had target on TCASII. TCASII quit momentarily, we then asked ATC for a vector to avoid traffic if it got close. We were issued a turn. TCASII then started working again and gave a climb command. We advised ATC of climb due to TCASII and climbed to 16900 ft. We then returned to 16000 ft after clear of conflict.
