In sum: an small aircraft instructor and student made an ILS in night VMC to MSL airport. MSL does not have a tower, but is served by an on field FSS. The crew was cleared for a touch and go with a missed approach. During the touchdown, the FSS agent made a remark about not being cleared to land, and another aircraft cancelled the reporter's IFR clearance. The reporting aircraft reinstated its IFR clearance and then proceeded to foul up the missed approach procedure. The reporting instructor talks about fatigue, complacency, and distraction.
