Narrative:

We were IFR at 13000 ft wnwbound on a vector to J-70. TCASII showed traffic ahead below us and climbing, headed towards us. ATC advised us of VFR traffic ahead 1 mi and climbing -- at the same time, TCASII announced 'traffic, monitor vertical speed.' I took control of the aircraft and started a slight right turn. At that time, the first officer noticed the VFR aircraft, an light transport, climbing about 1/2 mi off to our left and about 600- 800 ft above us. We then resumed our heading and confirmed with departure control that the other aircraft was VFR. No intended evasive action was taken. TCASII was a great help in this situation.
