Narrative:

Aircraft was on radar vectors to ILS runway 7 at bur. Position approximately 10 to 15 northwest of vny VORTAC. Company information page advises of possible GPWS terrain warnings. At 5000 ft (ATC claimed MVA 5000 ft) we received 'terrain, terrain pull-up' GPWS advisory. Since I got a 'pull up' I complied and climbed 1000 ft. Heavier than normal WX and lack of familiar surrounding made decision to climb correct. More information on a 'real time basis' relating terrain information could prevent nuisance climbs.
