Narrative:

Upon arrival to lch at AM45, we were informed by air carrier station personnel that our aircraft was covered with frost and ice. Due to lack of deicing equipment, and in consideration of the WX and temperature (WX clear -- temperature just above freezing) we suggested to the station personnel that it could be possible to raise the temperature of the aircraft skin by spraying it with water from the available fire equipment. The station deice coordinator took it into consideration and approved the idea. The aircraft was sprayed and it was moderately successful. Only ice remaining was on top of wing due to cold soaked fuel refreezing the water. We did not depart lch until am plus 5:45, when aircraft was completely free of ice. Only later did we discover that the station personnel applied a deicing procedure that was not approved by air carrier company vol X. Pilots are only trained for identify of ice and to certify aircraft clear of ice. Pilots are not trained in actual procedure for deicing the aircraft.

Title: AN ACR MDT WAS DEICED BY AN IMPROPER PROC.

Narrative: UPON ARR TO LCH AT AM45, WE WERE INFORMED BY ACR STATION PERSONNEL THAT OUR ACFT WAS COVERED WITH FROST AND ICE. DUE TO LACK OF DEICING EQUIP, AND IN CONSIDERATION OF THE WX AND TEMP (WX CLR -- TEMP JUST ABOVE FREEZING) WE SUGGESTED TO THE STATION PERSONNEL THAT IT COULD BE POSSIBLE TO RAISE THE TEMP OF THE ACFT SKIN BY SPRAYING IT WITH WATER FROM THE AVAILABLE FIRE EQUIP. THE STATION DEICE COORDINATOR TOOK IT INTO CONSIDERATION AND APPROVED THE IDEA. THE ACFT WAS SPRAYED AND IT WAS MODERATELY SUCCESSFUL. ONLY ICE REMAINING WAS ON TOP OF WING DUE TO COLD SOAKED FUEL REFREEZING THE WATER. WE DID NOT DEPART LCH UNTIL AM PLUS 5:45, WHEN ACFT WAS COMPLETELY FREE OF ICE. ONLY LATER DID WE DISCOVER THAT THE STATION PERSONNEL APPLIED A DEICING PROC THAT WAS NOT APPROVED BY ACR COMPANY VOL X. PLTS ARE ONLY TRAINED FOR IDENT OF ICE AND TO CERTIFY ACFT CLR OF ICE. PLTS ARE NOT TRAINED IN ACTUAL PROC FOR DEICING THE ACFT.
