Narrative:

The flight was on radar vectors by approach control at 6000 ft MSL in IMC. I was flying the aircraft using the autoplt with the altitude hold engaged. We received a TA, followed almost immediately with an RA (climb, climb, climb). The captain attempted to clear the airspace visually while I disconnected the autoplt and started the climb. The intruder was at approximately 11 O'clock, less than one mi, 300 ft below. We received a clear of conflict at about 6300 ft. We then returned to 6000 ft and advised ATC of the occurrence. ATC replied they showed no traffic. Note: above location position of intruder determined from TCASII display. We were IMC and never had visual contact.
