Narrative:

I have been a crew member for a major airline for 28 yrs; the last 2 yrs on international. Recently I had occasion to use my pass to arrive, non-uniformed, in civilian clothes at a major united states airport. As has been the accepted practice and my custom for over a quarter of a century; I exited the aircraft via the jetway and began walking some 30 yds, the distance from the jetway to the crew bus pick up point. I was stopped by an employee of another airline that shares our gate space for not having identify for ramp access to this particular airport. The company identify issued to me displayed on my lapel was not recognized as sufficient. Airport police were called and after questioning and an identify check, I was permitted to continue. As security at all airports becomes tighter perhaps a universal identify card for flight deck cabin team with a color code or letter 'T' for transit would be of help.
