Narrative:

Received and acknowledged initial approach clearance to 'expect visual approach 27L.' reported runway in sight and received clearance for the visual approach. Upon lining up for 27L, noticed an large transport 1000 ft above also lined up for 27 left. Immediately instructed the first officer (PF) to turn right. Several seconds later, received a TCASII warning, and received another call from approach control informing us that we were cleared for the visual to 27R. Acknowledged and stated that this was the first time we had heard and confirmed 27R. In this situation, the system worked as designed: this was a visual approach, and the other aircraft was sighted in plenty of time to avoid a conflict. The TCASII system provided a reliable backup, and approach control issued further instructions in a timely manner.
