Narrative:

We were following an light transport to runway 33 and were cleared across runways 36 and 3. We pulled over to the right in the holding area to the left side of the light transport at which time a heard over the radio that our aircraft was cleared for takeoff. The #2 pilot answered the radio and repeated the takeoff clearance and when he let go of the microphone button on the radio, I heard the tower say 'cleared for immediate takeoff. There is an medium large transport on a 1 1/2 mi final' at which time I rolled onto the runway and brought the power to rated N1. I noticed mdt departing on 36 ahead of me that seemed rather close but didn't think anything of it because at national, aircraft are taking off and landing at real close intervals. Immediately after takeoff the controller gave us a heading of 130 degrees and told us to contact departure. Then he asked if anything was wrong. We were wondering why he asked. A pilot at newport news asked us if we saw the medium large transport landing as were crossing the 36 runway and we said 'no.' he said that the controller should not have cleared us to takeoff that close to him landing, which we agreed. We received a telephone call at newport news from the area manager at washington national informing us that we were not cleared for takeoff. The area manager said the tape showed the mdt was cleared for takeoff and then there is something that's garbled.

Title: MULTIPLE RWY OP INTERSECTING RWYS. CPR X UNAUTHORIZED TKOF HAD LTSS FROM MLG LNDG INTERSECTING RWY. SYS ERROR. POSSIBLE SIMILAR A/N.

Narrative: WE WERE FOLLOWING AN LTT TO RWY 33 AND WERE CLRED ACROSS RWYS 36 AND 3. WE PULLED OVER TO THE R IN THE HOLDING AREA TO THE L SIDE OF THE LTT AT WHICH TIME A HEARD OVER THE RADIO THAT OUR ACFT WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. THE #2 PLT ANSWERED THE RADIO AND REPEATED THE TKOF CLRNC AND WHEN HE LET GO OF THE MIKE BUTTON ON THE RADIO, I HEARD THE TWR SAY 'CLRED FOR IMMEDIATE TKOF. THERE IS AN MLG ON A 1 1/2 MI FINAL' AT WHICH TIME I ROLLED ONTO THE RWY AND BROUGHT THE PWR TO RATED N1. I NOTICED MDT DEPARTING ON 36 AHEAD OF ME THAT SEEMED RATHER CLOSE BUT DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT BECAUSE AT NATIONAL, ACFT ARE TAKING OFF AND LNDG AT REAL CLOSE INTERVALS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF THE CTLR GAVE US A HDG OF 130 DEGS AND TOLD US TO CONTACT DEP. THEN HE ASKED IF ANYTHING WAS WRONG. WE WERE WONDERING WHY HE ASKED. A PLT AT NEWPORT NEWS ASKED US IF WE SAW THE MLG LNDG AS WERE XING THE 36 RWY AND WE SAID 'NO.' HE SAID THAT THE CTLR SHOULD NOT HAVE CLRED US TO TKOF THAT CLOSE TO HIM LNDG, WHICH WE AGREED. WE RECEIVED A TELEPHONE CALL AT NEWPORT NEWS FROM THE AREA MGR AT WASHINGTON NATIONAL INFORMING US THAT WE WERE NOT CLRED FOR TKOF. THE AREA MGR SAID THE TAPE SHOWED THE MDT WAS CLRED FOR TKOF AND THEN THERE IS SOMETHING THAT'S GARBLED.
