Narrative:

On oct/sun/92, I was captain on a fly service flight scheduled from fairbanks to galena, ak. After a normal takeoff on runway 1L at fairbanks, I attempted to retract the landing gear at approximately 300 ft AGL. The gear failed to start the retraction cycle and all 3 gear showed down and locked. I had experienced this problem before and slower airspds for retraction had, on a previous occasion, solved the problem. In order to give maintenance a clrer picture of the malfunction, at 1500 ft I retarded the power to 800 pounds torque and continued the climb slowing to 100 KTS. At approximately 2000 ft without warning the aircraft stalled and the right wing dropped 30-40 degrees. No audio stall warning was evidenced prior to the stall, I immediately advanced the power levers and the aircraft flew cleanly out of the stall with approximately a 200 ft altitude loss. I remained in the traffic pattern and returned the aircraft for gear maintenance. On a subsequent takeoff 1 hour later in another small aircraft, I watched the temperature on climb out. Outside air temperature in my aircraft rose from 0 degrees F on the surface to plus 23 degrees F at 5000 ft and from calm surface winds they steadily increased from out of the east at about 2000 ft and I computed a quartering tailwind of our 40 KTS at my cruise altitude of 8500 ft. I learned on this date that clear skies and smooth air are not guarantees wind shear cannot bite you. I feel I was doing the right thing in this case and flew the airplane out of the condition without incident but with passenger it was embarrassing and proved to me how rapidly the condition can occur.

Title: SMT ATX GETS INTO A STALL AFTER TKOF WHILE ATTEMPTING GEAR RETRACTION.

Narrative: ON OCT/SUN/92, I WAS CAPT ON A FLY SVC FLT SCHEDULED FROM FAIRBANKS TO GALENA, AK. AFTER A NORMAL TKOF ON RWY 1L AT FAIRBANKS, I ATTEMPTED TO RETRACT THE LNDG GEAR AT APPROX 300 FT AGL. I HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND SLOWER AIRSPDS FOR RETRACTION HAD, ON A PREVIOUS OCCASION, SOLVED THE PROBLEM. OUTSIDE AIR TEMP IN MY ACFT ROSE FROM 0 DEGS F ON THE SURFACE TO PLUS 23 DEGS F AT 5000 FT AND FROM CALM SURFACE WINDS THEY STEADILY INCREASED FROM OUT OF THE E AT ABOUT 2000 FT AND I COMPUTED A QUARTERING TAILWIND OF OUR 40 KTS AT MY CRUISE ALT OF 8500 FT. I LEARNED ON THIS DATE THAT CLR SKIES AND SMOOTH AIR ARE NOT GUARANTEES WIND SHEAR CANNOT BITE YOU. I FEEL I WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING IN THIS CASE AND FLEW THE AIRPLANE OUT OF THE CONDITION WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT WITH PAX IT WAS EMBARRASSING AND PROVED TO ME HOW RAPIDLY THE CONDITION CAN OCCUR.
