Narrative:

On 10/X/92, I was taxiing northeast on the 3/21 parallel taxiway at tus. We were instructed by ground control, who was working both tower and ground, to taxi to the gate via taxiway 2 and hold short of 11R/29L. I missed the hold short instruction. It was night and the lights at the extension of runway 11R are taxiway lights, not runway lights. I crossed the taxiway/extension and was then told by ground/tower to continue taxiing across the closed runway 11L/29R and hold short of the 11 parallels. The controller then told us that we were previously told to hold short of 11R. I called the tower afterwards and explained that I missed the hold short 11R call and asked why it is marked with blue taxi lights. She replied that it is a runway extension. Contributing causes were unfamiliarity with landing on 3/21 versus the usual 11L/29R. There was some confusion on my coplts part as to where 11R was due to the blue versus white lights. He reminded me of the hold short call, but this was after crossing 11R and prior to the clearly marked 11L runway lights. Supplemental information from acn 222795. After landing on 21 at tus, we were cleared by tower to the ramp hold short of 11R. I looked up from the checklist and we were crossing 11R, inadvertently. The taxiway crossed the overrun portion of 11R there are no lights at all, blue or white. We basically didn't see it coming. Tower called and said that was 11R we just crossed. The lighting and runway/taxiway designation is very poor.

Title: AN MLG ACR TAXIED ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY THAT IS NOT MARKED IN THE CONVENTIONAL MANNER.

Narrative: ON 10/X/92, I WAS TAXIING NE ON THE 3/21 PARALLEL TAXIWAY AT TUS. WE WERE INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL, WHO WAS WORKING BOTH TWR AND GND, TO TAXI TO THE GATE VIA TAXIWAY 2 AND HOLD SHORT OF 11R/29L. I MISSED THE HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTION. IT WAS NIGHT AND THE LIGHTS AT THE EXTENSION OF RWY 11R ARE TAXIWAY LIGHTS, NOT RWY LIGHTS. I CROSSED THE TAXIWAY/EXTENSION AND WAS THEN TOLD BY GND/TWR TO CONTINUE TAXIING ACROSS THE CLOSED RWY 11L/29R AND HOLD SHORT OF THE 11 PARALLELS. THE CTLR THEN TOLD US THAT WE WERE PREVIOUSLY TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF 11R. I CALLED THE TWR AFTERWARDS AND EXPLAINED THAT I MISSED THE HOLD SHORT 11R CALL AND ASKED WHY IT IS MARKED WITH BLUE TAXI LIGHTS. SHE REPLIED THAT IT IS A RWY EXTENSION. CONTRIBUTING CAUSES WERE UNFAMILIARITY WITH LNDG ON 3/21 VERSUS THE USUAL 11L/29R. THERE WAS SOME CONFUSION ON MY COPLTS PART AS TO WHERE 11R WAS DUE TO THE BLUE VERSUS WHITE LIGHTS. HE REMINDED ME OF THE HOLD SHORT CALL, BUT THIS WAS AFTER XING 11R AND PRIOR TO THE CLRLY MARKED 11L RWY LIGHTS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 222795. AFTER LNDG ON 21 AT TUS, WE WERE CLRED BY TWR TO THE RAMP HOLD SHORT OF 11R. I LOOKED UP FROM THE CHKLIST AND WE WERE XING 11R, INADVERTENTLY. THE TAXIWAY CROSSED THE OVERRUN PORTION OF 11R THERE ARE NO LIGHTS AT ALL, BLUE OR WHITE. WE BASICALLY DIDN'T SEE IT COMING. TWR CALLED AND SAID THAT WAS 11R WE JUST CROSSED. THE LIGHTING AND RWY/TAXIWAY DESIGNATION IS VERY POOR.
