Narrative:

In range to gnv, the ATIS stated that gnv was operating under index a capability. Neither pilot knew what that meant and did not ask until after we had landed. Gnv ground control advised that it meant crash/rescue and/or fire fighting equipment was insufficient for air carrier operators. Furthermore, acrs operated in and out of gnv at their own risk in this situation. This was corrected prior to our taking off again. I certainly was remiss in not determining immediately what it meant, and I feel that the airport manager should have made this situation clrer to the flcs.
