In summary: an light transport crew had a flickering chip warning light on their left engine which soon became steady. They shut down the engine and returned to land at their origination station, mem. The first officer was flying, the captain was the reporter. The passenger and flight attendants were properly briefed. Crash and rescue equipment were alerted. About 15 mi out from the landing, the engine was restarted and used with partial power until after a safe landing was made. There were no injuries nor panic. The aircraft was not damaged. WX was no factor in this incident. An emergency was declared with mem center.

Title: AN LTT CREW HAD A PARTIAL ENG FAILURE. THEY SHUT DOWN THE ENG, RESTARTED THE ENG FOR LNDG, AND RETURNED TO THEIR TKOF ARPT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

Narrative: IN SUMMARY: AN LTT CREW HAD A FLICKERING CHIP WARNING LIGHT ON THEIR L ENG WHICH SOON BECAME STEADY. THEY SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND RETURNED TO LAND AT THEIR ORIGINATION STATION, MEM. THE FO WAS FLYING, THE CAPT WAS THE RPTR. THE PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS WERE PROPERLY BRIEFED. CRASH AND RESCUE EQUIP WERE ALERTED. ABOUT 15 MI OUT FROM THE LNDG, THE ENG WAS RESTARTED AND USED WITH PARTIAL PWR UNTIL AFTER A SAFE LNDG WAS MADE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES NOR PANIC. THE ACFT WAS NOT DAMAGED. WX WAS NO FACTOR IN THIS INCIDENT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED WITH MEM CTR.
