Narrative:

Departed ord en route to pit. We had been dodging WX all evening. Both radars were in use. Were in a cloud layer (IMC) but were experiencing a smooth ride -- one area of light rain at about 9:30-10 O'clock was observed approximately 8-10 mi away. No indication of any activity appeared on the radar. Encountered moderate to severe turbulence for approximately 5 seconds. 1 passenger injury was the result. Turbulence/WX mode was in use immediately before hitting turbulence, we were asked about the WX to our left by the controller. We wonder if someone else had experienced problems along our course before and we were not informed.
