Narrative:
I was returning to grand strand airport from brunswick county airport in southport, nc. I was cruising at 1000 ft approximately 200 ft past the end of the fishing piers, over the ocean. At cherry grove I called the grand strand tower for permission to enter the air traffic area as required by far 103.17. Cherry grove is 7 mi east of the grand strand airport. I was cleared to continue on course (230 degrees) and call 1 mi east of the airport for a left base leg to runway 23. 3 mi east of the airport my engine quit without warning. I was able to glide the aircraft to the water's edge of the beach and make a safe emergency landing.
