Narrative:

En route from pdx to den, level at constant speed drive FL370, just past boise VOR we noticed the #1 CSD outlet temperature was in the red band. We followed the constant speed drive temperature high abnormal checklist. We descended down to the low twenties, then high teens to put the APU in its respective start envelope. Numerous APU start attempts failed. Even though the #1 generator bus was off the line, the constant speed drive temperature continued to climb, and with no way to back up the #1 generator bus, we decided to call maintenance flight control. They advised us to disconnect the #1 constant speed drive and, because we were now down to only 1 generator, to divert into slc. We agreed and complied with flight control. We followed company operational procedures and FARS. Logbook entries were made.

Title: AN MLG ACR CREW LOST AN ENG DRIVEN ALTERNATOR DUE TO HIGH CSD TEMP. THE APU WOULD NOT START, SO THEY LANDED AT AN ENRTE STATION.

Narrative: ENRTE FROM PDX TO DEN, LEVEL AT CONSTANT SPD DRIVE FL370, JUST PAST BOISE VOR WE NOTICED THE #1 CSD OUTLET TEMP WAS IN THE RED BAND. WE FOLLOWED THE CONSTANT SPD DRIVE TEMP HIGH ABNORMAL CHKLIST. WE DSNDED DOWN TO THE LOW TWENTIES, THEN HIGH TEENS TO PUT THE APU IN ITS RESPECTIVE START ENVELOPE. NUMEROUS APU START ATTEMPTS FAILED. EVEN THOUGH THE #1 GENERATOR BUS WAS OFF THE LINE, THE CONSTANT SPD DRIVE TEMP CONTINUED TO CLB, AND WITH NO WAY TO BACK UP THE #1 GENERATOR BUS, WE DECIDED TO CALL MAINT FLT CTL. THEY ADVISED US TO DISCONNECT THE #1 CONSTANT SPD DRIVE AND, BECAUSE WE WERE NOW DOWN TO ONLY 1 GENERATOR, TO DIVERT INTO SLC. WE AGREED AND COMPLIED WITH FLT CTL. WE FOLLOWED COMPANY OPERATIONAL PROCS AND FARS. LOGBOOK ENTRIES WERE MADE.
