Narrative:

Small transport X was 15 NM south of wrb (18 NM south of mcn) on an assigned heading of 345 degree vector for straight in runway 31 at mcn. Wrb tower was told of the aircraft and granted permission to transit their air traffic area. Shortly thereafter, training began on the arrival position at macon approach. The trainee had just assumed the position as small transport X called the airport in sight and did not hear the transmission. The trainee issued the aircraft position to small transport X and was advised by the instructor that small transport X had already reported the runway in sight. The trainee then asked small transport X to verify he had macon airport with crossing runways and VOR on the field in sight. Small transport X stated that he did have mcn in sight. The inbound was passed to mcn tower when small transport X was 7 NM sse of mcn runway 31. Small transport X was switched to mcn tower frequency. Upon changing to macon tower frequency and checking in, he was issued 'not in sight, cleared to land runway 31.' macon tower never acquired the aircraft visually and the ARTS tag, along with the primary/beacon target, dropped as he neared the main bang. Small transport X called mcn tower and asked position of FBO to which mcn tower asked his position. Small transport X replied that he was rolling out. Mcn tower controller called wrb tower and asked if they had an aircraft on the runway. Wrb tower replied affirmative. Small transport X was advised he landed at the wrong airport and switched to wrb tower frequency. Omitted from the text was the fact that, upon verifying that small transport X has macon airport in sight, the trainee cleared small transport X for visual approach straight in runway 31.

Title: SMT X NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC PROX OF ARPTS LNDG WRONG ARPT. PLTDEV.

Narrative: SMT X WAS 15 NM S OF WRB (18 NM S OF MCN) ON AN ASSIGNED HDG OF 345 DEG VECTOR FOR STRAIGHT IN RWY 31 AT MCN. WRB TWR WAS TOLD OF THE ACFT AND GRANTED PERMISSION TO TRANSIT THEIR ATA. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, TRAINING BEGAN ON THE ARR POS AT MACON APCH. THE TRAINEE HAD JUST ASSUMED THE POS AS SMT X CALLED THE ARPT IN SIGHT AND DID NOT HEAR THE XMISSION. THE TRAINEE ISSUED THE ACFT POS TO SMT X AND WAS ADVISED BY THE INSTRUCTOR THAT SMT X HAD ALREADY RPTED THE RWY IN SIGHT. THE TRAINEE THEN ASKED SMT X TO VERIFY HE HAD MACON ARPT WITH XING RWYS AND VOR ON THE FIELD IN SIGHT. SMT X STATED THAT HE DID HAVE MCN IN SIGHT. THE INBOUND WAS PASSED TO MCN TWR WHEN SMT X WAS 7 NM SSE OF MCN RWY 31. SMT X WAS SWITCHED TO MCN TWR FREQ. UPON CHANGING TO MACON TWR FREQ AND CHKING IN, HE WAS ISSUED 'NOT IN SIGHT, CLRED TO LAND RWY 31.' MACON TWR NEVER ACQUIRED THE ACFT VISUALLY AND THE ARTS TAG, ALONG WITH THE PRIMARY/BEACON TARGET, DROPPED AS HE NEARED THE MAIN BANG. SMT X CALLED MCN TWR AND ASKED POS OF FBO TO WHICH MCN TWR ASKED HIS POS. SMT X REPLIED THAT HE WAS ROLLING OUT. MCN TWR CTLR CALLED WRB TWR AND ASKED IF THEY HAD AN ACFT ON THE RWY. WRB TWR REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE. SMT X WAS ADVISED HE LANDED AT THE WRONG ARPT AND SWITCHED TO WRB TWR FREQ. OMITTED FROM THE TEXT WAS THE FACT THAT, UPON VERIFYING THAT SMT X HAS MACON ARPT IN SIGHT, THE TRAINEE CLRED SMT X FOR VISUAL APCH STRAIGHT IN RWY 31.
