Narrative:

Dtw city airport tower reported my position to dtw metropolitan approach as being in their TCA. My indicated altitude was 3800 ft MSL with current altimeter set in from the ATIS at city. After takeoff from city, tower reported my altitude to metropolitan at 4000 ft MSL. I was told to identify twice. After second time, I was told to contact dtw metropolitan approach on the ground by phone. I did. He said that there was not a problem but city reported my altitude to him at 4000 ft MSL (in the TCA). This whole problem could have been avoided if dtw city controller would have just asked me my altitude to check it with my mode C. I still do not know if the mode C is reading correctly. But, with a little bit of courtesy by the city tower, the problem never would have been reported by asking my altitude to xchk it with my mode C.

Narrative: DTW CITY ARPT TWR RPTED MY POS TO DTW METRO APCH AS BEING IN THEIR TCA. MY INDICATED ALT WAS 3800 FT MSL WITH CURRENT ALTIMETER SET IN FROM THE ATIS AT CITY. AFTER TKOF FROM CITY, TWR RPTED MY ALT TO METRO AT 4000 FT MSL. I WAS TOLD TO IDENT TWICE. AFTER SECOND TIME, I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT DTW METRO APCH ON THE GND BY PHONE. I DID. HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM BUT CITY RPTED MY ALT TO HIM AT 4000 FT MSL (IN THE TCA). THIS WHOLE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF DTW CITY CTLR WOULD HAVE JUST ASKED ME MY ALT TO CHK IT WITH MY MODE C. I STILL DO NOT KNOW IF THE MODE C IS READING CORRECTLY. BUT, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF COURTESY BY THE CITY TWR, THE PROBLEM NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN RPTED BY ASKING MY ALT TO XCHK IT WITH MY MODE C.
