Narrative:

Copilot flying, climbing through 12000 ft MSL. #1 engine fire light illuminated and bell sounded. Declared emergency and requested return to tpa. Captain executed emergency checklist with so while copilot flew and handled radios. With engine secure, captain landed aircraft uneventfully at tpa with emergency equipment waiting. The fire light had extinguished after engine shutdown but we discharged 1 bottle anyway. No evidence of fire reported externally from emergency crews so we taxied to gate and released aircraft to maintenance. Tpa controllers were very competent and helpful during ordeal.
