Narrative:

When lining up on runway for takeoff, I confirmed the squawk with first officer. He could not confirm squawk, so I asked tower to confirm squawk. They did. On takeoff roll first officer advised me he did not get 'the clearance' using the acrs 'pre departure clearance' system obtained the IFR clearance on rotation. I and the first officer had been flying the same trip 3 times prior, same month, and we just plain dropped the ball. We used the checklist and even verified radio frequencys, fixes, etc.
