Narrative:

Forgot to get ATC route clearance through ACARS pds. Taxied out on ground control. No mentioned of lack of clearance! Took off with takeoff clearance on tower frequency. No mentioned of lack of clearance! Switched to departure control. Again no mention of lack of clearance! They told us to squawk wxyz as compared to abcd. We did. That was our first clue that something wasn't right. I checked our ACARS messages and found no ATC pre departure clearance clearance. Nothing was ever said to us one way or the other!

Narrative: FORGOT TO GET ATC RTE CLRNC THROUGH ACARS PDS. TAXIED OUT ON GND CTL. NO MENTIONED OF LACK OF CLRNC! TOOK OFF WITH TKOF CLRNC ON TWR FREQ. NO MENTIONED OF LACK OF CLRNC! SWITCHED TO DEP CTL. AGAIN NO MENTION OF LACK OF CLRNC! THEY TOLD US TO SQUAWK WXYZ AS COMPARED TO ABCD. WE DID. THAT WAS OUR FIRST CLUE THAT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT. I CHKED OUR ACARS MESSAGES AND FOUND NO ATC PDC CLRNC. NOTHING WAS EVER SAID TO US ONE WAY OR THE OTHER!
