Narrative:

Just as I leveled off at 7000 ft the left alternator failed. I was new to the plane and its system, including the autoplt. Since I needed to run the emergency procedure, I decided to set 'altitude hold' on the autoplt. I didn't -- I hit 'attitude hold' instead. While I was screwing with the alternator, the aircraft climbed to 7300 ft before I noticed the deviation. ZOA never said anything so I don't think I'm in trouble.
