Narrative:

Air carrier X 20 mi southwest of denver. We were inbound on the denver 213 radial when we were instructed by denver approach to descend from 15000 ft to 11000 ft slow to 170 KTS and turn to 010 heading radar vectors runway 8L den. While descending out of about 13400 ft, we encountered a TCASII alert instructing us to climb at once at a vertical speed between 1500-2000 FPM. We initiated the climb and advised approach of our intentions. Approach control replied by instructing us not to climb due to traffic above us 400 ft. I continued the climb and the captain restated we were climbing due to the TCASII alert and to move the conflicting traffic. The controller gave the medium large transport a 090 heading. Moments after that we noticed the medium large transport below us moving left to right, under our nose. We then proceeded to land following the medium large transport into denver. Our aircraft is an light transport.
