Narrative:

During frequency change from lax center to ontario approach control, got pop up red DOT target on TCASII with 'monitor vertical speed command'. No visual contact, so followed TCASII. Minor deviation from altitude clearance, ontario approach control gave us traffic when we came up on frequency and were a little annoyed that we dodged the traffic. Traffic was nebound at 13500 MSL we were cleared to 14000 on kayoh arrival to sna.
