Narrative:

Record of the clearance received by flight (charlotte to tri- cities, tn) jan/92 was apparently lost on ACARS before or shortly after takeoff. This was recognized by the crew shortly after charlotte ATC noticed an improper transponder code. Upon investigation the ACARS clearance could not be retrieved via ACARS (both pilots physically saw the clearance). Clearance was verified with atlanta ARTCC and the flight was completed successfully.
