Narrative:

We took off from long beach and were told to turn to a heading of 270 degree. We departed runway 30. We were initially cleared to 3000 ft. Departure control turned us early (before the 1500 ft turn left to 270) and cleared us to 9000. At approximately 3500 we received a RA from the TCASII system. The command was to descend. We didn't see any traffic visually but the target was on the TCASII display. I disconnected the autoplt (at this point I had the autoplt on and we were in performance management mode). We descended to approximately 3000 ft during the maneuver. I believe I disconnected the autothrottles and possibly did not retard them because our airspeed during the maneuver was approximately 280 KIAS. I can't remember too many details about what modes we were in during every RA. I had been so busy inside and outside the aircraft and the voice from the TCASII is very loud and often ATC is calling the traffic that it's sometimes difficult after the event to even remember the sequence. The TCASII system is very reliable and I've become a real believer in it. Some of the problems with it are: usually ATC is talking simultaneously and the pilots are very busy. The commands are so loud that the pilots have difficulty speaking to each other and ATC. There's always a nagging concern and fear of deviating from a clearance even if it's authorized by a TCASII alert. Pilots have been so trained never to do that.

Title: MLG DEPARTING LGB HAD TCASII RA TO DSND. RA WAS CLRED AFTER DSNDING TO 3000. NO TA.

Narrative: WE TOOK OFF FROM LONG BEACH AND WERE TOLD TO TURN TO A HDG OF 270 DEG. WE DEPARTED RWY 30. WE WERE INITIALLY CLRED TO 3000 FT. DEP CTL TURNED US EARLY (BEFORE THE 1500 FT TURN L TO 270) AND CLRED US TO 9000. AT APPROX 3500 WE RECEIVED A RA FROM THE TCASII SYS. THE COMMAND WAS TO DSND. WE DIDN'T SEE ANY TFC VISUALLY BUT THE TARGET WAS ON THE TCASII DISPLAY. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT (AT THIS POINT I HAD THE AUTOPLT ON AND WE WERE IN PERFORMANCE MGMNT MODE). WE DSNDED TO APPROX 3000 FT DURING THE MANEUVER. I BELIEVE I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOTHROTTLES AND POSSIBLY DID NOT RETARD THEM BECAUSE OUR AIRSPD DURING THE MANEUVER WAS APPROX 280 KIAS. I CAN'T REMEMBER TOO MANY DETAILS ABOUT WHAT MODES WE WERE IN DURING EVERY RA. I HAD BEEN SO BUSY INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE ACFT AND THE VOICE FROM THE TCASII IS VERY LOUD AND OFTEN ATC IS CALLING THE TFC THAT IT'S SOMETIMES DIFFICULT AFTER THE EVENT TO EVEN REMEMBER THE SEQUENCE. THE TCASII SYS IS VERY RELIABLE AND I'VE BECOME A REAL BELIEVER IN IT. SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH IT ARE: USUALLY ATC IS TALKING SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE PLTS ARE VERY BUSY. THE COMMANDS ARE SO LOUD THAT THE PLTS HAVE DIFFICULTY SPEAKING TO EACH OTHER AND ATC. THERE'S ALWAYS A NAGGING CONCERN AND FEAR OF DEVIATING FROM A CLRNC EVEN IF IT'S AUTHORIZED BY A TCASII ALERT. PLTS HAVE BEEN SO TRAINED NEVER TO DO THAT.
