Narrative:

While executing a missed approach at las due to winds that exceeded the maximum crosswind limitations of the aircraft, ATC instructed us to fly runway heading and maintain present altitude of 4500 ft. VFR traffic was reported to us at 11 O'clock and 5000 ft. We were told he was maintaining 5000 ft. The traffic started descending across our flight path. I turned left and started a descent to stay clear. TCASII was on and provided an RA to confirm our visual prognosis. 500 ft traffic separation does not seem adequate to provide a good safety net. Fortunately we had a good visual on the VFR traffic and TCASII performed as advertised. Supplemental information from acn 195409: we reported the visual and was told to maintain the visual on the traffic.

Title: CLOSE PROX ACR-LGT UNK VFR TFC OVER LAS.

Narrative: WHILE EXECUTING A MISSED APCH AT LAS DUE TO WINDS THAT EXCEEDED THE MAX XWIND LIMITATIONS OF THE ACFT, ATC INSTRUCTED US TO FLY RWY HDG AND MAINTAIN PRESENT ALT OF 4500 FT. VFR TFC WAS RPTED TO US AT 11 O'CLOCK AND 5000 FT. WE WERE TOLD HE WAS MAINTAINING 5000 FT. THE TFC STARTED DSNDING ACROSS OUR FLT PATH. I TURNED L AND STARTED A DSCNT TO STAY CLR. TCASII WAS ON AND PROVIDED AN RA TO CONFIRM OUR VISUAL PROGNOSIS. 500 FT TFC SEPARATION DOES NOT SEEM ADEQUATE TO PROVIDE A GOOD SAFETY NET. FORTUNATELY WE HAD A GOOD VISUAL ON THE VFR TFC AND TCASII PERFORMED AS ADVERTISED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 195409: WE RPTED THE VISUAL AND WAS TOLD TO MAINTAIN THE VISUAL ON THE TFC.
