Narrative:

On climb out, felt 'bump' and heard 'pop.' observed #1 engine unspooling. The ignition switch was turned to 'override' and #1 throttle retarded. Engine spooled up to flight idle. Declared an emergency to pit departure control, was cleared for a visual traffic pattern to runway 10L at pit. Left #1 in flight idle for #1 generator power as all engine parameters appeared normal. Started APU. Completed all normal and emergency procedures. Captain assumed flying duties and accomplished a normal 28 degree flap landing. Shut down #1 engine upon leaving 10L and taxied to gate.
