Narrative:

At cruise, FL310, mach 0.76, 85000 gross weight, fire warning, light engine, both fire extinguisher bottles utilized, fire warning continued. Destination planned to be oklahoma city, northeast. Diverted to little rock since it was closer and WX better. Engine shutdown per procedures, landing at little rock uneventful. No fire observed during landing. Emergency crew at runway in little rock verified no fire existed. Taxied to gate. Emergency declared at altitude and emergency equipment requested at little rock. Flight attendants were asked to prepare for emergency landing and to not utilize left overwing exit due to possible fire location. Flight attendants told not to evacuate/evacuation aircraft until actual fire was verified and instructed by pilot. All crew members were asked for input on direction of duties. Cockpit resource management usable, utilized and emphasized due to prior training.

EMER CREW AT RWY IN LITTLE ROCK VERIFIED NO FIRE EXISTED. TAXIED TO GATE. EMER DECLARED AT ALT AND EMER EQUIP REQUESTED AT LITTLE ROCK. FLT ATTENDANTS WERE ASKED TO PREPARE FOR EMER LNDG AND TO NOT UTILIZE L OVERWING EXIT DUE TO POSSIBLE FIRE LOCATION.
