Narrative:

Aircraft made a normal landing at tokyo's narita airport, runway 34. I was cleared to taxi via A-1, P-1, to spot 207. Ramp control cleared flight to enter P-1 to spot 207. I noticed an LD3 cargo bin to left of aircraft outside of taxi lines. Aircraft followed the taxiway centerline and upon confirmation that everything was clear inside the taxiway side lines continued taxi. As we approached LD3 out left side of aircraft continued to determine if aircraft would not hit container. Visibility limited looking back toward wing. I applied brakes but #1 engine came in contact with LD3, scrapes on bottom of cowling. The area was a prohibited area for any containers and was confirmed by airport authority and airport ground service company. Cargo airlines freighter which landed shortly before, sustained the same damage from the same container at the same site. LD3 container had been reported to ground control 2 hours earlier that it was a danger to taxiing aircraft. Airport authority should have 1) removed container, 2) notified aircraft taxiing on ground control, or 3) closed P-1 taxiway. At no time did ground control/ramp control indicate to me that there was a possibility of a danger to taxiing.

Title: ACR CARGO ACFT HAS ENG DAMAGED BY CARGO CONTAINER PARKED IN PROHIBITED AREA.

Narrative: ACFT MADE A NORMAL LNDG AT TOKYO'S NARITA ARPT, RWY 34. I WAS CLRED TO TAXI VIA A-1, P-1, TO SPOT 207. RAMP CTL CLRED FLT TO ENTER P-1 TO SPOT 207. I NOTICED AN LD3 CARGO BIN TO L OF ACFT OUTSIDE OF TAXI LINES. ACFT FOLLOWED THE TAXIWAY CENTERLINE AND UPON CONFIRMATION THAT EVERYTHING WAS CLR INSIDE THE TAXIWAY SIDE LINES CONTINUED TAXI. AS WE APCHED LD3 OUT L SIDE OF ACFT CONTINUED TO DETERMINE IF ACFT WOULD NOT HIT CONTAINER. VISIBILITY LIMITED LOOKING BACK TOWARD WING. I APPLIED BRAKES BUT #1 ENG CAME IN CONTACT WITH LD3, SCRAPES ON BOTTOM OF COWLING. THE AREA WAS A PROHIBITED AREA FOR ANY CONTAINERS AND WAS CONFIRMED BY ARPT AUTHORITY AND ARPT GND SVC COMPANY. CARGO AIRLINES FREIGHTER WHICH LANDED SHORTLY BEFORE, SUSTAINED THE SAME DAMAGE FROM THE SAME CONTAINER AT THE SAME SITE. LD3 CONTAINER HAD BEEN RPTED TO GND CTL 2 HRS EARLIER THAT IT WAS A DANGER TO TAXIING ACFT. ARPT AUTHORITY SHOULD HAVE 1) REMOVED CONTAINER, 2) NOTIFIED ACFT TAXIING ON GND CTL, OR 3) CLOSED P-1 TAXIWAY. AT NO TIME DID GND CTL/RAMP CTL INDICATE TO ME THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF A DANGER TO TAXIING.
