Narrative:

We were cleared by den approach control to cross kiowa VOR at 17000, then descend to 11000. As soon as we passed kiowa VOR we initiated our descent. Immediately the TCASII warned of traffic, followed instantly by the TCASII command 'climb, climb, monitor vertical speed.' I saw on the TCASII that the conflicting traffic was at 16500 and immediately visually searched for the traffic. The first officer, who was flying, followed the TCASII and climbed to 17500. At 17500 the TCASII said 'clear of traffic.' the first officer, who was monitoring TCASII while the flight engineer and I looked for the traffic, said that he saw on the TCASII that the altitude difference was -00-. The den approach controller told us that he had a 16500 readout on our traffic as we left 17000 for 11000 (after the fact). None of us ever visually saw the other aircraft. TCASII works.

Title: ACR LGT REVERSED DSCNT IN RESPONSE TO TCASII RA.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED BY DEN APCH CTL TO CROSS KIOWA VOR AT 17000, THEN DSND TO 11000. AS SOON AS WE PASSED KIOWA VOR WE INITIATED OUR DSCNT. IMMEDIATELY THE TCASII WARNED OF TFC, FOLLOWED INSTANTLY BY THE TCASII COMMAND 'CLB, CLB, MONITOR VERT SPD.' I SAW ON THE TCASII THAT THE CONFLICTING TFC WAS AT 16500 AND IMMEDIATELY VISUALLY SEARCHED FOR THE TFC. THE FO, WHO WAS FLYING, FOLLOWED THE TCASII AND CLBED TO 17500. AT 17500 THE TCASII SAID 'CLR OF TFC.' THE FO, WHO WAS MONITORING TCASII WHILE THE FLT ENGINEER AND I LOOKED FOR THE TFC, SAID THAT HE SAW ON THE TCASII THAT THE ALT DIFFERENCE WAS -00-. THE DEN APCH CTLR TOLD US THAT HE HAD A 16500 READOUT ON OUR TFC AS WE LEFT 17000 FOR 11000 (AFTER THE FACT). NONE OF US EVER VISUALLY SAW THE OTHER ACFT. TCASII WORKS.
