Narrative:

Air carrier X after being cleared for a right base visual to runway 3 at sat (and within the air traffic area) the copilot saw a blue and white small aircraft pass underneath us (approximately 300 ft below), right to left. Queried tower for information. Tower said, 'just advised of small aircraft at 2200 ft.' we were passing through 2500 ft. Talked with approach after landing. Approach said small aircraft Y was on a vector for sat. We were never advised of this traffic. Had we rapidly descended in our turn, this may have been a different story. No TCASII on board. Evasive action: momentary level off; precautionary.
