Narrative:

I was PIC of an airliner. I swapped aircraft in grand island, northeast, due to a mechanical problem with the aircraft. (I was in a hurry to keep on schedule.) the station agent provided me with a new manifest. The station agent listed the current WX in norfolk, northeast, on the manifest and there was no need for an alternate. We flew our empty aircraft to norfolk to pick up 1 passenger and return to grand island. When I got back the director of operations informed me the norfolk airport manager had called and said I took off on a closed runway. The runway in no way was marked as closed and unicom provided no assistance. A full printout of WX and a yellow X on the runway would have prevented this. In no way was the runway abnormal to use and there was no trouble.
