Narrative:

While taxiing from gate to runway 26R at ont, via the air carrier ramp and november our exhaust thrust caused a hazard to passenger boarding a plane at the terminal. Just prior to starting a left turn off the air carrier ramp an medium large transport on tower frequency (we were on ground control), made a right turn off runway 26R on 46P and stopped. While waiting to see if the medium large transport was going to stop I slowed our taxi speed to about 3 KTS. After I was sure that it was safe to continue I applied power, approximately 35 percent N1 on engine #1, #2, and #3 to start the airplane rolling around the turn. Normally I would have applied power prior to the turn so that the engines would be at idle power when exhaust was directed toward the terminal. If ground control had been able to advise us that the medium large transport was going to hold it would not have been necessary to slow our aircraft and we could have made the turn with less thrust. If this situation happens again I will stop the aircraft and request that airport operations clear the area behind our aircraft.

Title: FLC OF LGT MILDLY JET BLASTED PAX ENPLANING AS LGT TAXIED PAST AND TURNED.

Narrative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
