Narrative:

The aircraft was just out of an annual and had the pitot/static/transponder encoder certifications done. The preflight was rushed as we were late in getting started. All normal until a few seconds into the climb the airspeed started to fall off but the altitude appeared correct. We requested a return for landing but on downwind all indications seemed ok, so we elected to continue on. We were given a climb and a few seconds later all indications, airspeed and altitude went crazy. So we returned for a landing. Knowing the problem was around the pitot/static system that was the first place we checked. This aircraft has the static source as part of the pitot tube. The company that did the static tests forgot to remove the tape they put around the pitot tubes static vents. The tape they used was almost the same color (gray) as the tube itself and the light under the wing made the two blend together. The tape was removed and the flight continued on uneventfully. 1) after any maintenance, check the aircraft more carefully. 2) should have landed at the first indication of trouble, these problems don't just vanish. 3) maintenance should not use the same color tape and if they must they should red flag it. The bottom line...the hurrier I am, the behinder I get!

Title: SMT HAS PITOT STATIC INSTS FAILURE AFTER TKOF.

Narrative: THE ACFT WAS JUST OUT OF AN ANNUAL AND HAD THE PITOT/STATIC/TRANSPONDER ENCODER CERTIFICATIONS DONE. THE PREFLT WAS RUSHED AS WE WERE LATE IN GETTING STARTED. ALL NORMAL UNTIL A FEW SECONDS INTO THE CLB THE AIRSPD STARTED TO FALL OFF BUT THE ALT APPEARED CORRECT. WE REQUESTED A RETURN FOR LNDG BUT ON DOWNWIND ALL INDICATIONS SEEMED OK, SO WE ELECTED TO CONTINUE ON. WE WERE GIVEN A CLB AND A FEW SECONDS LATER ALL INDICATIONS, AIRSPD AND ALT WENT CRAZY. SO WE RETURNED FOR A LNDG. KNOWING THE PROBLEM WAS AROUND THE PITOT/STATIC SYS THAT WAS THE FIRST PLACE WE CHKED. THIS ACFT HAS THE STATIC SOURCE AS PART OF THE PITOT TUBE. THE TAPE WAS REMOVED AND THE FLT CONTINUED ON UNEVENTFULLY. 1) AFTER ANY MAINT, CHK THE ACFT MORE CAREFULLY. 2) SHOULD HAVE LANDED AT THE FIRST INDICATION OF TROUBLE, THESE PROBLEMS DON'T JUST VANISH. 3) MAINT SHOULD NOT USE THE SAME COLOR TAPE AND IF THEY MUST THEY SHOULD RED FLAG IT. THE BOTTOM LINE...THE HURRIER I AM, THE BEHINDER I GET!
