Narrative:

Asked ATC to deviate around thunderstorm over stl. ATC approved 10 degree left turn. After 5 calls to center requesting additional left turn with no reply I instructed the first officer to go around the WX. The controller saw our deviation and said that a turn back right was required for traffic. He then instructed another aircraft a right turn for traffic (us) with the comment 'be glad he didn't run into you'. Our aircraft was TCASII equipped and we had the other traffic on TCASII. At no time were we closer than 10 DME and it all could have been avoided if the controller would have answered 1 of our 5 calls. His comment was uncalled for.
