Narrative:

Pilot in left seat was practicing wheel lndgs in light crosswind from right on runway 17. Although current on conventional gear, had not flown tail dragger in 5 or 6 yrs. First 2 lndgs to full stop were satisfactory. Third landing was excellent and the tail wheel held off until it dropped because elevator quit flying. On rollout, aircraft started to depart to right. Pilot overcorrected setting up oscillation. Aircraft ground looped left at low speed stopping on runway to the right of centerline. No injury to PF in left seat or to other pilot in right seat. Bent right gear slightly, bent right wing tip and scraped right elevator tip. Although pilot had plenty of time in type, should have had better refamiliarization with tail dragger type after not flying it for extended period of time.

Title: PLT OF SMA PRACTICING LNDGS IN TAIL DRAGGER TYPE SMA ACFT. LOST CTL. GND LOOPED WITH SLIGHT DAMAGE TO ACFT.

Narrative: PLT IN L SEAT WAS PRACTICING WHEEL LNDGS IN LIGHT XWIND FROM R ON RWY 17. ALTHOUGH CURRENT ON CONVENTIONAL GEAR, HAD NOT FLOWN TAIL DRAGGER IN 5 OR 6 YRS. FIRST 2 LNDGS TO FULL STOP WERE SATISFACTORY. THIRD LNDG WAS EXCELLENT AND THE TAIL WHEEL HELD OFF UNTIL IT DROPPED BECAUSE ELEVATOR QUIT FLYING. ON ROLLOUT, ACFT STARTED TO DEPART TO R. PLT OVERCORRECTED SETTING UP OSCILLATION. ACFT GND LOOPED L AT LOW SPD STOPPING ON RWY TO THE R OF CENTERLINE. NO INJURY TO PF IN L SEAT OR TO OTHER PLT IN R SEAT. BENT R GEAR SLIGHTLY, BENT R WING TIP AND SCRAPED R ELEVATOR TIP. ALTHOUGH PLT HAD PLENTY OF TIME IN TYPE, SHOULD HAVE HAD BETTER REFAMILIARIZATION WITH TAIL DRAGGER TYPE AFTER NOT FLYING IT FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
