Narrative:

Cabin rate of climb fluctuated at about 15OO FPM. As the cabin altitude passed 8000 ft, we donned our oxygen masks and did the 'rapid descent' checklist. The cabin cleared down to 10000 ft. Originally we were on a heading south to rod then while in the descent we were vectored back to dtw, where we took off from originally. We landed without any complications or injuries to passengers. They all donned masks except for a few in first class, apparently because a deadheading captain did not put his on! We squawked 7700 in the descent part way to dtw.
