Narrative:
On a direct flight from ptn to new I had approval to deviate around thunderstorms, I encountered turbulence and could not hold altitude, with each hard bump the transceiver would change frequency making communications with approach control almost impossible. I have never had a radio do this before. This condition lasted approximately 3 mins.

Title: SMT PLT HAS A PROBLEM MAINTAINING ASSIGNED ALT AND FREQ ALLOCATION AS CLR AIR TURB ENCOUNTERED IN ASSOCIATED TSTM ACTIVITY.
Narrative: ON A DIRECT FLT FROM PTN TO NEW I HAD APPROVAL TO DEVIATE AROUND TSTMS, I ENCOUNTERED TURB AND COULD NOT HOLD ALT, WITH EACH HARD BUMP THE TRANSCEIVER WOULD CHANGE FREQ MAKING COMS WITH APCH CTL ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A RADIO DO THIS BEFORE. THIS CONDITION LASTED APPROX 3 MINS.
