Narrative:

Departed ksjc in small aircraft X in cavu conditions on an IFR flight plan, instructional flight. Departed runway 12L on runway heading for vectors sfo-destination was uki. At about 3 mi out on a heading of 120 degree bay departure issued a right vector to a heading of 270 degree. Upon rollout on 270 degree heading air carrier Y passed 50 ft below and 100 ft in front of us. ATC indicated the sjc tower had released him prematurely off of runway 12R at sjc. We were not advised of such traffic, nor was there time to respond in maneuvering away from the metropolitan. It's quite apparent there was no ATC coordination between the tower and departure and zero consideration for our position. Supplemental information from acn 181124: air carrier Y departed from sjc runway 12R, and were heading 140 degree on the instrument departure. Climbing out of 2000 ft AGL, we noticed small aircraft X at our 9-10 O'clock position, moving wbound. We had just been handed over to bay departure control from the tower controller. Small aircraft X was approximately 1000 ft to our left, and 100 ft above our altitude. The tower controller had not warned us about this traffic, and when we switched to bay departure control, it became evident that bay did not warn small aircraft X regarding our position. We saw small aircraft X as we were switching frequencys. We heard small aircraft X question the controller as to why we were so close to him. It became evident that small aircraft X was IFR, as were we, and neither one of us was warned about the other. I was contacted by the manager of bay control regarding the event, and it seemed his concern as to why sjc tower had released us when there was IFR traffic in our route of departure.

Title: SMA X HAD NMAC LTSS FROM ACR Y. SYS ERROR.

Narrative: DEPARTED KSJC IN SMA X IN CAVU CONDITIONS ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, INSTRUCTIONAL FLT. DEPARTED RWY 12L ON RWY HDG FOR VECTORS SFO-DEST WAS UKI. AT ABOUT 3 MI OUT ON A HDG OF 120 DEG BAY DEP ISSUED A R VECTOR TO A HDG OF 270 DEG. UPON ROLLOUT ON 270 DEG HDG ACR Y PASSED 50 FT BELOW AND 100 FT IN FRONT OF US. ATC INDICATED THE SJC TWR HAD RELEASED HIM PREMATURELY OFF OF RWY 12R AT SJC. WE WERE NOT ADVISED OF SUCH TFC, NOR WAS THERE TIME TO RESPOND IN MANEUVERING AWAY FROM THE METRO. IT'S QUITE APPARENT THERE WAS NO ATC COORD BTWN THE TWR AND DEP AND ZERO CONSIDERATION FOR OUR POS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 181124: ACR Y DEPARTED FROM SJC RWY 12R, AND WERE HDG 140 DEG ON THE INST DEP. CLBING OUT OF 2000 FT AGL, WE NOTICED SMA X AT OUR 9-10 O'CLOCK POS, MOVING WBOUND. WE HAD JUST BEEN HANDED OVER TO BAY DEP CTL FROM THE TWR CTLR. SMA X WAS APPROX 1000 FT TO OUR L, AND 100 FT ABOVE OUR ALT. THE TWR CTLR HAD NOT WARNED US ABOUT THIS TFC, AND WHEN WE SWITCHED TO BAY DEP CTL, IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT BAY DID NOT WARN SMA X REGARDING OUR POS. WE SAW SMA X AS WE WERE SWITCHING FREQS. WE HEARD SMA X QUESTION THE CTLR AS TO WHY WE WERE SO CLOSE TO HIM. IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT SMA X WAS IFR, AS WERE WE, AND NEITHER ONE OF US WAS WARNED ABOUT THE OTHER. I WAS CONTACTED BY THE MGR OF BAY CTL REGARDING THE EVENT, AND IT SEEMED HIS CONCERN AS TO WHY SJC TWR HAD RELEASED US WHEN THERE WAS IFR TFC IN OUR RTE OF DEP.
