Narrative:

Sky dive operation used to operate at P08. USAF (willie AFB auxiliary-tower) operated VHF to af jet MTR in pattern and simultaneously keyed VHF 122.8 to 'advise' P08 traffic what af operations were in progress. Now jump operator has moved to E60, 12 mi southwest of P08, to free the af of their concern over 'joint air operations.' headpin still keys VHF (122.8) on 'all calls' via UHF. There are 8 other airfields using 122.8 within radio range of E60. Unnecessary xmissions are a burden for the jump aircraft crew who must communicate to both abq and E60 traffic on all flts, both climbing, jump runs, descent and pattern. (Guarding of 122.8 was to get information of hazards near E60 prior to dropping jumpers if also had a difficult with excessive local xmissions of extraneous nature). I advised 'headpin' to please 'log' and 'pass on' my suggestion that VHF xmissions simultaneous (dual-keying) of UHF (air force) frequency was extraneous, not needed and bothersome to 'operations safety' of jump aircraft. This is filed to get feedback 'downhill' to willie AFB. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter is retired combat commander and has no quarrel with the military. He stated that the current chart and AFD are not up to date. The information on coolidge is incorrect. There are no services available. There is no operation on the field at all except when the military is training. The mobile unit they use is advisory only and he feels that since no one else uses the airport, it would be sensible to eliminate the VHF communication. The 8 airports nearby operating on unicom 122.8 create enough congestion without the added broadcast of the military. Best thing would be to change the E60 unicom frequency. Anything but 122.8.

Title: MIL FAC KEYS UNICOM WHEN COMMUNICATE ON UHF TO MIL PLTS.

Narrative: SKY DIVE OPERATION USED TO OPERATE AT P08. USAF (WILLIE AFB AUX-TWR) OPERATED VHF TO AF JET MTR IN PATTERN AND SIMULTANEOUSLY KEYED VHF 122.8 TO 'ADVISE' P08 TFC WHAT AF OPS WERE IN PROGRESS. NOW JUMP OPERATOR HAS MOVED TO E60, 12 MI SW OF P08, TO FREE THE AF OF THEIR CONCERN OVER 'JOINT AIR OPS.' HEADPIN STILL KEYS VHF (122.8) ON 'ALL CALLS' VIA UHF. THERE ARE 8 OTHER AIRFIELDS USING 122.8 WITHIN RADIO RANGE OF E60. UNNECESSARY XMISSIONS ARE A BURDEN FOR THE JUMP ACFT CREW WHO MUST COMMUNICATE TO BOTH ABQ AND E60 TFC ON ALL FLTS, BOTH CLBING, JUMP RUNS, DSNT AND PATTERN. (GUARDING OF 122.8 WAS TO GET INFO OF HAZARDS NEAR E60 PRIOR TO DROPPING JUMPERS IF ALSO HAD A DIFFICULT WITH EXCESSIVE LCL XMISSIONS OF EXTRANEOUS NATURE). I ADVISED 'HEADPIN' TO PLEASE 'LOG' AND 'PASS ON' MY SUGGESTION THAT VHF XMISSIONS SIMULTANEOUS (DUAL-KEYING) OF UHF (AIR FORCE) FREQ WAS EXTRANEOUS, NOT NEEDED AND BOTHERSOME TO 'OPS SAFETY' OF JUMP ACFT. THIS IS FILED TO GET FEEDBACK 'DOWNHILL' TO WILLIE AFB. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR IS RETIRED COMBAT COMMANDER AND HAS NO QUARREL WITH THE MIL. HE STATED THAT THE CURRENT CHART AND AFD ARE NOT UP TO DATE. THE INFO ON COOLIDGE IS INCORRECT. THERE ARE NO SVCS AVAILABLE. THERE IS NO OPERATION ON THE FIELD AT ALL EXCEPT WHEN THE MIL IS TRNING. THE MOBILE UNIT THEY USE IS ADVISORY ONLY AND HE FEELS THAT SINCE NO ONE ELSE USES THE ARPT, IT WOULD BE SENSIBLE TO ELIMINATE THE VHF COM. THE 8 ARPTS NEARBY OPERATING ON UNICOM 122.8 CREATE ENOUGH CONGESTION WITHOUT THE ADDED BROADCAST OF THE MIL. BEST THING WOULD BE TO CHANGE THE E60 UNICOM FREQ. ANYTHING BUT 122.8.
