Narrative:

Flying north from san diego to santa monica, I was in contact with coast approach at long beach. Coast approach told me to squawk 1200. I called back to inform them I was going past lax. Coast answered back and said, 'you don't need to talk to anyone on the listed route,' and I fell for it. I knew better and think he used a poor choice of words.

Narrative: FLYING N FROM SAN DIEGO TO SANTA MONICA, I WAS IN CONTACT WITH COAST APCH AT LONG BEACH. COAST APCH TOLD ME TO SQUAWK 1200. I CALLED BACK TO INFORM THEM I WAS GOING PAST LAX. COAST ANSWERED BACK AND SAID, 'YOU DON'T NEED TO TALK TO ANYONE ON THE LISTED RTE,' AND I FELL FOR IT. I KNEW BETTER AND THINK HE USED A POOR CHOICE OF WORDS.
